The University of New Mexico Center for Public Leadership plays a critical role in building and exercising a deep understanding of and expertise in global public leadership through research, innovation, and academics.
CPL OVERVIEW
CPL is an academic research center that provides teaching, research and training in the practical skills of leadership for people in government, nonprofits, and business. The University of New Mexico Center for Public Leadership plays a critical role in building and exercising a deep understanding of and expertise in global public leadership through research, innovation, and academics in a world responding to a new array of economic, political, and social challenges. The meaning is to extend the frontiers of knowledge through research and scholarship on leadership, public service, and decision-making.
MISSION AND GOALS
The University of New Mexico Center for Public Leadership is dedicated to excellence in leadership education and scholarship. Through teaching and research, we are preparing this generation with the insights and practical skills necessary to address the world's most urgent problems. CPL prepares students and professionals for research, consulting, and leadership positions in public and private education and business organizations committed to improving the complexities of modern leadership.
The program brings together excellence through education, business, law and public policy to study and engage in consulting projects serving public, private and social-sector organizations undertaking and supporting transformational change in global leadership. We offer access to rigorous, multi-disciplinary, academic and experiential preparation that students and professionals need to flourish in exciting leadership, management, and professional positions in institutional settings.

Latin American Institute for Public Policy and Leadership (LAL)1. LAL LAL has as a mission to be a bridge of opportunities for students, professors, researchers, and administrators of Latin American governments and institutions of higher education. The opportunities are in relation to higher education and professional excellence. LAL, through innovative strategies and with a complete non-for-profit bridge program offering, connects university and scientific communities from Latin America with prestigious academic and research programs at the Center for Public Leadership in the University of New Mexico.

The Hispanic Leadership Initiative (HLI)2. HLI HLI is the premier organization founded to advance the Hispanic community across the country. HLI prepares, connects and honors leaders. HLI promote leadership values and training through internships, scholarships and conferences that involve public service, leadership development, business and academic excellence. One of the main goals of our organization is to work closely with the Hispanic Leadership Institute to promote, organize, and grow the leadership community in the Hispanics culture.

Latin American Network and Conference in Government and Public Policy (LAT-NET) 3. LAT-NET
The annual conference promotes interchange of ideas and current practices in the fields of Government and Public Policy. It provides professional development opportunities. Attendees will be coming mainly from USA and Latin American Universities, federal and local government officials, scholars, and leaders of professional associations.

Science and Technology Leadership Initiative (ST-LI)4. ST-LI ST-LI works with UNM researchers, administrators, faculty, students and global partners and champions to build strong science and technology collaborations. The goal is to advance critical research with leadership implications, and help foreigner students and also UNM students to develop first world-class leaders capable of modeling the future.

DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER FOR PUBLIC LEADERSHIP
Dr. Juan de Dios Pineda is a research professor at the Institute for Public Evaluation and Applied Research (IPEAR), Affiliated Faculty at the School of Public Administration, and Director of the Center for Public Leadership in the University of New Mexico. Dr. Pineda was bestowed Doctor Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate Degree) for Tianjin Foreigner Studies University, China, on December 2015 for his contributions and leadership in the area of public policy and international education. In 2014, The University of Santander in Mexico conferred to Dr. Pineda the title of Doctor Honoris Causa for his research in the area of Higher Education. In 2012, Dr. Pineda was appointed as a member of Academic Committee of China Ministry of Education's Regional and National Research-Latin American Research Center. Dr. Pineda has an Executive Education Certificate on Leadership from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. He is a visiting professor at the University of Tianjin and University of Binhai, and research professor at the Center for Education Policy Research, at the University of New Mexico.
